Beaver Hall

From the Plateau to Cartier International. Our next stop during Montreal a Table this year was at Jérôme Ferrer’s Beaver Hall Bistro Gourmand.

The place was packed, which is normal for a Montreal a Table Saturday evening. We only had to wait 2-3 minutes to be lead to our table. Our friendly server brought up quickly the customary cutting board with the knife for bread, an entire boule of French Bread and the complimentary pot of cornichon pickles. We opted for the Menu Mtl a Table. For appetizers, two of us ordered Tarte fine de champignon en differentes textures - Mushroom Tart and its different textures, and the third one had the special of the day, the Saumon tartare.

 Appetizer

For the main course we’ve made the mistake to order the same thing:

Grain fed Veal from Quebec stuffed with Prosciutto, Parmesan and Sage. Crispy-melting potatoes, pan seared mushrooms, roasted salsifies, fine herb salad and watercrest.

Grain fed Veal with Prosciutto

The meat was dry and overcooked, almost burnt, and the sage didn’t do it any favors.

For dessert our friendly waiter informed us that we had only one choice, since they ran out of Maple Syrup Crème Brule. Once we told him we won’t have dessert because we are not fancying the Panacotta he went to the kitchen to check what he can do for us. He then returned with what he told us were the last three Maple Syrup Crème Brule.

Our fourth visit at the Beaver Hall, and in spite of the friendly service, it was the worst experience to date in terms of food. My guess is Jerome Ferer was too busy at Europea or out of town this day.
